Love for our community is and always will be at the heart of everything we stand for at Pagan Pride. That includes the health and safety of that community. We cannot ignore the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the Lowcountry.

The fear of infection or reinfection is real and happening. People should be happy and enjoying themselves, instead they may be worried about getting sick. We cannot justifiably go ahead with this event and feel good about it. We are heartbroken to make this decision, but we cannot in good faith put our friends and family at risk over an event.

This coupled with the CDC’s and Chatham County’s recommendation to steer clear of large gatherings, Savannah mayor’s emergency order to revoke all permits for events in public space through Sept. 30, and Keller’s Flea Market’s attorney recommending they cancel events due to the Covid case growth, has led to the planning committee’s decision to cancel Pagan Pride 2021 and postpone.

To all of our vendors and sponsors, we will be issuing refunds and will have those completed by September 1st, unless you let us know that you want to carry over your money to Lowcountry Pagan Pride 2022. Please email us savppd@gmail.com if you would like to carry this to 2022. If it is safe to do so, we may host a Spring Equinox event to help bridge the gap between now and the Fall Equinox when we host our main event.

We all need to focus our energy towards a common goal of helping to heal our community and lifting each other up so we can come out of this pandemic stronger for it. We recognize that we are all feeling the loss of being able to come together in celebration. However, it is best that we do what we can to protect each other and our community so that when we do come together again, we are all healthy and whole. Allan with Keller’s Flea Market has been gracious and is looking forward to holding this event in the future. We hope this can be the spring, but we need your help in continuing to protect yourself and others.

With a heavy heart and much love,
Your Lowcountry Pagan Pride Organizing Committee

ENTERTAINMENT FOR 2021

Didges Christ Superdrum

Didges Christ Superdrum was formed in 2010 and has been crafting its music and live show ever since over hundreds of performances at various venues from small private parties and night clubs, to outdoor festivals, and opening for national touring bands. No show is too big or too small!!! DCSD has enough gear and lighting to run an entire large stage at festival, but also the ability to scale the show down for small nightclubs and private party shows. The band sometimes sets up its own pyramid stage brought from their home planet of Grok as you can see in the slideshow above….

DCSD has released 3 full length albums and written many yet unreleased songs, and also know a good amount of popular cover songs/remakes with sci-fi themes by artists such as David Bowie, NIN, Ministry, Kyuss, Puscifer, and Rolling Stones to name a few, and therefore has the ability to play multiple sets at venues that prefer one band to cover 3 or 4 hours.

The costumes can appear dark and foreboding to the uninitiated, but the darkness is tongue in cheek in a “Spinal Tap from outer space” type of way, and crowds are delighted by the astounding combination of costumes, lasers, lights, props, and interpretive dance provided by “Skyedancer” and friends.

The band has had much critical acclaim and success over the years including winning “Best Alternative Music Video” and “Most Creative Music Video” for their self directed music video for the song “Finding My Way Back OM” at the World Music and Independent Film Festival in Washington D.C. where they also performed the song. They also won “Best Alternative Rock Music Video” from the Akademia Awards for their music video for the song “Yellow Dwarf & the 9 Orbs” which has over 30,000 views on Youtube and can be seen below. They have 2 songs, “Black is the Colour” and “Grind to the Slaves”, on the soundtrack of the independent horror film EVANGELINE which is available on Netflix etc. The music video for “Black is the Colour” features footage from the film and was done by EVANGELINE’s director Karen Lam, it has over 140,000 Youtube views and can also be viewed below.

DCSD is currently, or has been endorsed in the past by companies such as Line6, Xcel Drumsticks, DR Guitar Strings, Coldcock Whiskey, and Clayton Guitar picks…

DIDGES CHRIST SUPERDRUM is based in South Florida but has trailer and will travel…

A vast majority of our songs are original and all of our music is a co-creative effort.

Xuluprophet

XULUPROPHET

Xuluprophet is a Psychedelic Funk/Reggae/Rock Jam Band out of Savannah, GA, a veritable phenomenon of high octane, groove laden PARTY music. Re-established in 2013 by Irish guitarist/producer Oisin Daly and founder South Bronx native songwriter Xulu Jones as an acoustic 2 piece brought together by their mutual love of Reggae and Jimi Hendrix. Soon they added a drummer and eventually switched to electric guitars. A unique setup allows each guitarist to switch between bass and guitar live on stage which adds a fluid dynamic to the performance.

Now a power trio with Rhett Coleman on Drums, Xuluprophet has recently shared the stage with The Wailers and Passafire as well as headlining multiple festivals regionally. The groove heavy rhythmic style has its roots in caribbean and latin rhythms while the dual guitarist sound has shades of 60’s psychedelia, 70’s funk, 80’s rock and 90’s grunge. They have been compared to artists as varied as The Police, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Bad Brains and Primus. Playing mostly dance and party music, the lyrical message is both political and spiritual, drawing from their Reggae roots they wish to influence the listener to reflect and better themselves and the world around them through the power of music and song. Be sure not to miss this unique and dynamic live band!

WORKSHOPS FOR 2021

Workshops will be updated as they are confirmed. A schedule with times/days will be announced closer to the event date.

Beginner Belly Dance – TIME TBA

Samirah’s Beginner Belly dance Class will be an introduction to American Cabaret Style Belly dance.

“Belly Dance is organic and can be an effective form of exercise and stress relief, not to mention a great self-esteem booster… if done correctly.”

By the end of this class, you will be equipped with the proper posture and basic moves of Raqs Sharqi.  You will also learn a short choreography and be ready to shimmy and zaghareet at a moment’s notice! Yalla! (Let’s go!)

History of Belly dance:

The actual origin of belly dance is unknown as it is one of the oldest forms of dance with deep origins. The most popular theory of belly dance’s origin is that it is from Egypt with influences from other Middle Eastern countries. It is said that the dance started as a religious dance or possibly as a birthing practice to ease childbirth. It later came to America in 1893 with Chicago’s World Fair. Today, belly dance is taught in almost every country throughout the world.  It offers an instant community of friends and performers. Although dominated by women, the dance is also performed by men (most commonly in Egypt), although European influence later promoted female dancers over male.

What to Bring:

You need to wear something that you can easily move in; yoga or work out pants, sports bra, fitted tank top, or fitted t-shirt are best. We will be using bare feet. Please bring a scarf to tie around your waist, or coin scarf if you have one. I will have some to borrow/purchase for class.

Samirah I’sad is a seasoned bellydancer originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her first introduction to bellydancing came from the Texas and Louisiana Renaissance Festivals where she fell in love with the talent and earthy-feminine beauty that Tribal Bellydancers exude. She began probing her interests by studying Raqs Sharqi oriental dance and Zills performance under Shamsi, owner, and director of BayouShimmy bellydance in March of 2005.

Samirah moved to Savannah, Georgia in the quake of Hurricane Katrina’s destruction during the fall of 2005 where she met Scarlett of ScarlettRhythms back in 2006. Samirah studied American Cabaret style bellydance and Fan Veil performance under Scarlett. Through her she also met and studied drum solo performance with Razi, Atlanta belly dancer & henna artist. Mei’attah Raqs Bellydance Troupe was formed by the three in 2007.

Samirah began performing at Casbah Morrocan Restaurant in Savannah from 2009-2011. There she met many local bellydancers and started learning Sha’abi (Egyptian dancing), Sa’idi and Raqs al Assaya (Bellydance with cane), and Turkish styles of bellydance. Samirah also became close friends with Cybelle of Eclipse World Fusion Bellydance and under Cybelle’s tutorage, expanded her repertoire to include Scimitar dancing and tribal fusion styles of bellydance.

Samirah has performed at different venues ranging from festivals (her favorite) and parties to collaborative performances and restaurant dancing. She has performed at the Sentient Bean, Tantra Lounge, the Wormhole, Riverview Health & Rehab Center, and Casbah Morrocan Restaurant here in Savannah. She has also performed in Tybee Island Pirate’s Fest & Mardi Gras parades, at the occasional party for the Red Hats Society or Alee Shriners Women’s Group, and even the occasional club night around town.
